This blog post focuses on 3 emerging technologies that are reshaping the fitness industry and the impact they are having on our relationship with fitness.

It seems like every day we hear of a new piece of technology that is going to revolutionise fitness. Whether these claims are just good marketing or there is some truth behind it, there is no doubt the future of fitness is evolving with the progression of technology.

Greater accessibility, deeper insights, and even digital realms have all been made possible by companies that are pushing the limits on how we achieve our fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

We’ve looked at 3 of the most popular fields that are taking fitness to the next level and the exciting innovations that are emerging from each.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence is changing how we work on a global scale, and fitness is no exception. When we think of the impact AI is having on fitness, everyone’s immediate thought might jump to AI-powered fitness apps such as GymFitty and FitnessAI. These apps mimic the role of a personal trainer by using cutting-edge technology to generate personalised workouts tailored to individual capabilities.

But other companies are utilising AI to bring to life more adventurous concepts. OxeFit’s all-in-one fitness tool is bringing the full gym experience to the living room, offering a mix of strength and cardio workouts with the difficulty tuned based on the user’s physical ability. More subtle equipment, like the MAGIC mirror, offers a similar experience while seamlessly blending into the home environment.

Beyond workout support, AI serves as a valuable tool formanaging people’s diet. Developing personalised meal plans and automating shopping lists have been streamlined with this new technology, softening theheadache that comes with meal preparation.

Metaverse

The emergence of the metaverse is having a growing impact not just in the virtual fitness world, but in fitness beyond the headset. The metaverse’s immersive experience is making fitness more accessible, allowing people to engage with fitness from the comfort of their home and removing the reliance on a physical gym.

Accessing the metaverse at any location offers people connection to a community of like-minded individuals that can participate in group workouts and share their fitness journey in virtual spaces. This social aspect not only encourages people to stay consistent but also cultivates an environment where users can inspire and motivate one another.

The launching of apps which combine online gaming with exercise are reshaping people’s relationship with fitness. Move-to-earn games like Dustland Runner reward players with in-game tokens or NFTs based on effort, incentivising players to push their limits – great for people who need that extra bit of encouragement to get them through the workout.

Wearable Technology

Wearable technology has been around for a while, with Fitbit, Apple, and Garmin dominating the fitness wearables market with their stylish accessories designed for fitness tracking. These devices enabled users to monitor heart rate during workouts, count the number of daily steps, and assess sleep quality.

However, since their introduction all those years ago, wearables have made significant strides in the way they monitor health and fitness. Instead of simply tracking heart rate during workouts, newer hardware is capable of understanding the level of strain put on the body and determining the necessary recovery to reach peak performance.

Such advancements have led to healthcare professionals endorsing the technology, recognising wearable tech as a way to advance their field. For instance, Whoop’s Health Monitor delivers daily reports on keyhealth metrics, with the ability to share a PDF version directly with yourdoctor. Similarly, Garmin’s smartwatches are able to perform health assessments at home, making healthcare more accessible while providing more accurate data compared with traditional methods.

On top of being a tool to support front-line health professionals, wearable tech companies are using their equipment to conduct research aimed at advancing the healthcare industry. Initiatives such as the Apple Heart and Movement Study use Apple Watches to explore the links between physical activity and heart health with the hope of better understanding warning signs for improved prevention strategies.

Conclusion

It comes with no surprised that companies are taking advantage of the boom in technology to transform our relationship with fitness. The introduction of artificial intelligence is making fitness simple, alleviating the effort that comes with designing and updating training programs. The emergence of the metaverse also brings the community aspect to your doorstep, crucial for people in their battle to stay committed to their goals. At the heart of this lies wearable technology, enabling people to monitor their fitness, track progress and identify areas to improve.

The future of fitness is bright and, if we are to go off the groundbreaking innovations above, the best is yet to come.
